Abstract: The monograph deals with modern methods for consolidation of powder&#xD;
mixtures based on refractory carbides, oxides and nitrides. Special attention is&#xD;
given to problems of compaction and consolidation of nanopowder mixtures&#xD;
based on refractory compounds. The monograph also presents the comparative&#xD;
characteristics of consolidation conducted with different methods, including&#xD;
the authors’ techniques for highly effective electroconsolidation, which,&#xD;
despite its similarity to the technological SPS-process, has some distinguishing&#xD;
characteristics that simplify the production process, decrease the cost and&#xD;
guarantee lower initial cost of the finished goods. It also describes the&#xD;
comparative operational properties of the different materials obtained and used&#xD;
for wear resistant and abrasive tools and nozzles.</description>

Abstract: The monograph deals with the modern state and prospects for&#xD;
application of new composite materials based on alumina and silicon carbide,&#xD;
the special features of fabricating alumina and silicon carbide composites with&#xD;
vacuum hot pressing by applying high current to the graphite matrix. It is also&#xD;
concerned with microstructure, physical and mechanical properties, optimal&#xD;
compositions, and research into cutting properties of the composite materials&#xD;
with different primary compositions. The monograph describes the optimal&#xD;
modes of hot pressing for fabricating composites with good physical and&#xD;
mechanical properties, and also the optimal cutting modes for processing&#xD;
highly rigid alloys.</description>
