Abstract

The paper explores the possibilities and advantages of using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as an alternative energy source for railway transportation. It is noted that to utilize natural gas, it needs to be compressed, liquefied, or adsorbed. The primary focus is on gasdiesel engines, which, according to research findings, can significantly reduce CO2 and NOx emissions compared to diesel engines. The information presented in the study emphasizes the perspective and importance of introducing gas turbine locomotives operating on liquefied natural gas into the modern railway system to achieve greater efficiency and reduce the impact on the environment by reducing fuel consumption and improving the quality of its combustion process.
