Information and communication principles of the ERTMS/ETCS system

Abstract

The ERTMS/ETCS system lays down the principle of continuous and discrete information exchange between trackside devices of railway infrastructure and rolling stock. The system is based on the modular architecture of the onboard computing complex and the use of intelligent sensor tools that provide a highly accurate determination of the speed and spatial position of the train. The ETCS system is a key component of ERTMS, which also includes subsystems for managing train work, forming trains, passenger information systems and other components of integrated rail transport management.
