EN: The paper addresses the scientific and practical problem of developing a method for indirect non-destructive evaluation of integral geometric parameters of porous materials for industrial applications. The proposed approach is based on analysing the hydrodynamic and gas-dynamic characteristics of filtration transport of a test gas through a porous structure. Unlike conventional destructive techniques, including metallographic analysis and mercury intrusion porosimetry, the method enables rapid determination of integral characteristics without damaging the product, making it suitable for quality control and diagnostics. A conceptual model has been developed to establish the relationship between directly measured quantities, namely volumetric gas flow rate and pressure drop across the sample, and structural characteristics, including effective pore diameter and spatial pore concentration. The model is based on a capillary representation of porous media and combines the Hagen– Poiseuille, Washburn and Stokes equations adapted for compressible gaseous media. This enables description of the filtration process using macroscopic parameters while obtaining information about internal pore geometry. To improve metrological reliability, correction factors are introduced to compensate systematic errors caused by the simplified capillary representation of real porous structures. Two dimensionless coefficients, the conditional permeability and penetration efficiency coefficients, are introduced, improving accuracy of parameter estimation. A functional system structure has been developed, including a compressed gas unit, pressure and differential pressure sensors, a thermal mass flowmeter, an analogue-to-digital converter, and processing software. The procedure is based on recording gas flow rate and pressure drop under steady-state conditions followed by indirect determination of pore characteristics. Particular attention is paid to metrological support. Sensitivity analysis has been performed, and contributions of instruments to combined uncertainty have been evaluated. An uncertainty budget has been compiled according to ISO JCGM. The relative expanded uncertainty of effective pore diameter does not exceed 1.0% for instruments of medium accuracy class. The method has been validated against an optical microscopy reference using the normalized error criterion En. The value En ≤ 1 confirms agreement within uncertainty limits and verifies metrological suitability. The study contributes to a modelling approach combining filtration theory, indirect measurement principles and metrological analysis for porous materials, enabling non-destructive control of porous metallic and ceramic products used in engineering, filtration technologies and instrumentation.
